Scope Note: People who specialize in the design and arrangement of interiors, including the design of the space itself as well as designs, colors, and placement of moveable works located within buildings' spaces, such as furniture or accessories. For people whose profession focuses specifically on the design and construction of spaces inside architectural structures or parts of structures, prefer "interior architects." For those whose interest is limited to the furnishings and accessories, use "interior decorators."

Summary

After graduating from the New York School of Fine and Applied Art (later, Parsons School of Design) in 1936, Eleanor Horst (1892-1995) led a long career as an interior decorator. The collection includes photographs and slides of Horst projects, as well as numerous renderings of Horst designs, several by fellow Parsons graduate Lyman Martin.

Summary

Lyman Martin (1908-2003) graduated from Parsons School of Design in 1939 and joined Thedlow, an interior decoration firm. At Thedlow, Martin created interiors and watercolor renderings, and designed rugs and murals. In 1969, Martin became president of Thedlow, remaining until its closure in 1979. The collection includes student work, interior drawings, a travel diary, floorplans, photographs, clippings, and exhibition files.
