Series 3. Mademoiselle magazine, 1944-circa 1964

 Series

Scope and Contents

The breadth and variety of work here provides evidence of Nesbitt's long and creative association with Mademoiselle magazine, dating from World War II--when the magazine was printed on "Mlle Victory Paper"--to the early 1960s. Nesbitt's style appears to become increasingly fluid, playful and expressive as time progresses. Many of the tear sheets feature photographs credited to Carmen Schiavone, others to Herman Landshoff. Certain illustrations do not bear clear identification of having been executed for Mademoiselle , but are included here because strong stylistic similarities or other indicators suggest that they are likely to have been produced for this publication.
