The New School course catalog describes this event as follows: Robert Lichtman, moderator. A debate between Albert Ellis, founder of Rational Emotive Therapy, and Jerome D. Levin. Dr. Levin explains the 12-step, spiritual approach to recover from alcoholism and other addictions pioneered by A.A. [Alcoholics Anonymous]; Dr. Ellis challenges the "disease model" and other underlying assumptions of A.A. and argues for a method of "rational recovery."
