Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany, 1953-1960

 File — Box: 2, Folder: 20-22

Scope and Contents

Founded in 1951, the Claims Conference, still active in 2016, administers compensation funds, recovers unclaimed Jewish property and allocates funds to institutions that provide social welfare services to Holocaust survivors. The New School applied for grant funding from the Conference "in order to support members of its Faculty who, being victims of National Socialist persecution, are finding it difficult to establish themselves." Included here are items relating to the New School's grant applications for faculty members such as Hans Simons, Hannah Arendt, Eugen Kullman, Frieda Wunderlich, and Hanna Deinhard, among others. Materials include correspondence, grant applications, and inter-office memos.
