Scope and Contents

The records in this series include correspondence with press contacts and New School administrators, includng New School presidents Bryn Hovde and Hans Simons. Also includes correspondence with faculty members regarding their professional activities and course plans. Among other efforts, the series documents fund raising and promotional campaigns surrounding the phased project to expand the New School's building at 66 West Twelfth Street. Of note are De Lima's "Red Scare" files (this was De Lima's title--she also used "Red," "Reds" and "Red Baiting"), tracking the period in which the New School was accused of being a Communist-front organization, and correspondence and press related to threats faced by schools and other institutions, as well as to foreign-born scholars in the United States.
