Series 6. Course and conference promotion by subject or title, 1935-1966

 Series

Scope and Contents

This series includes material, often written by Agnes De Lima, documenting efforts to promote lecture series and courses in the New School Adult Division in the 1940s and 1950s. Also included here is documentation regarding one-time events, conferences, short lecture series and annual or semi-annual events. There are also drafts of material written for inclusion in the weekly New School Bulletin, which, according to a 1946 report, was "increasingly important as an organ of publicity for the School." The bulletin, serving as both schedule and public relations organ was "mailed to over 6,000 former students and friends of the School including [New School] Associate Members, contributors and selected lists of newspaper editors and writers as well as being distributed to many of the classes." The editorials posted in each bulletin, often written by Alvin Johnson and Bryn Hovde, among others, "are widely read and judging by the many 'fan' letters create much good will for the School." The editorials were also sent separately to publictions for placement in advance of appearing in the bulletin.
