Series 3. Teaching and departmental administration, 1955-2004
Scope and Contents
This series contains material stemming from Vidich's career at the New School and other universities. The Courses and visiting professorships subseries includes syllabi, correspondence, lecture notes, transcripts, and audio recordings, beginning in 1955 when Vidich began his career in the Sociology Department at the University of Puerto Rico, through his decades-long affiliation with the New School Graduate Faculty, beginning in 1960. The administration subseries includes correspondence, position papers, reports, and departmental statements. Although some materials were created before and after Vidich's tenure, the bulk of the items date from 1970-1985, when he served as acting chair and chair of the Sociology Department. During this time, Vidich saw the split of the Anthropology and Sociology department into two separate departments, and weathered the accreditation crisis of 1977, playing a central role in the reconstitution of the Graduate Faculty. Included here are Vidich's writings on the Graduate Faculty and the New School, both in his official capacity and as an independent researcher.
