This series includes records of and relating to the Institute for Retired Professionals (IRP), founded at The New School in 1962 by a group of New York City schoolteachers who sought to continue their intellectual development after retirement. Correspondents include Hyman Hirsch, founder and director of the IRP, William Birenbaum, Allen Austill, and other administrators.
