North American T.V. Dinner, 1989

 File — Box: Mixed k_21 (F), Folder: 11

Scope and Contents

Photograph of the artwork of Rodrigo Sanz, signed by the artist, of a suited man consuming the world while having dinner in front of the television. The man is believed to be Oliver Laurence North, a United States National Security Council staff member during the Iran–Contra affair, although the illustration also resembles United States President Ronald Reagan. Both Reagan and North were involved in the political scandal of the Iran-Contra affair, the political scandal of facilitating the sale of arms to Iran and using the profit to fund the Contras, an anti-Sandinista group, in Nicaragua. In the artwork, the man is cutting into a Central American country (probably Nicaragua) as if it were a piece of meat.
