Scope and Contents

The Story Prize is an annual award established in 2004 by philanthropist Julie Lindsey which includes a $20,000 prize for an outstanding collection of short fiction in English by a living author, chosen by three independent judges. As of 2025, the Story Prize is directed by Larry Dark, who directed the organization at its inception. From 2006 to 2012, the Story Prize award ceremonies were co-sponsored by the New School Graduate Writing Program and featured the three award finalists reading from and discussing their work.
