Scope and Contents The Beacons in Jazz Gala was a fundraiser and award ceremony hosted by the School of Jazz and Contemporary Music at The New School from 1987 until 2006. The gala served as a ceremony for the “Beacons in Jazz Awards,” an award presented to living jazz musicians whose careers and achievements were taken to be of historical and artistic significance to the genre.
