"Crank" file, 1962-1971
"Crank" file was a commonly-used filing category referring to correspondence from the public. The term was used by the dean's office as a title for unsolicited letters proposing course content, requesting help, offering services, and often expressing very personal, sometimes angry opinions on a range of topics.
