Fashion and Diversity event series

Abstract

The Fashion and Diversity event series at The New School was organized in 2016 by three students in the Master of Arts in Fashion Studies program at Parsons School of Design, The New School's art and design college. The collection consists of a recording of "Fashion and Race," one of the events in the series, as well as the contents of a Google Drive folder containing documents related to the series planning and production.

Fashion print scrapbook collection

Abstract Consists of 19 scrapbooks containing more than 10,000 prints of fashion illustrations produced between the early 1800s and 1913. The prints primarily depict clothing and accessories designs, with a few depicting theatrical costumes, architectural and sculptural details, and textile designs. Felix Salzer papers

Abstract

Austrian-born American music theorist Felix Salzer (1901-1986) furthered the system of musical analysis developed by Heinrich Schenker and was a faculty member and executive director of the Mannes College of Music. The collection contains biographical information, Salzer's honorary doctorate from Mannes and materials and photographs relating to the degree conferral ceremony, as well as vacation photographs of Salzer and his wife, Hedwig Lindtberg.

Francesca Sammaritano student work and teaching examples

Francesca Sammaritano is a fashion designer and alumna of Parsons School of Design, as well as a full-time faculty member. The collection is comprised of two student project notebooks maintained by Sammaritano while she was a Fashion BFA student at Parsons School of Design in the late 1980s and two examples of student work created in classes Sammaritano taught as a professor.

Francis J. Geck papers

Summary

Francis Geck (1900-2005) graduated from the New York School of Fine and Applied Art (later, Parsons School of Design) in 1924 and taught interior design at the school's Paris Ateliers until 1927. In 1930, Geck became a professor of fine arts at University of Colorado, where he taught for 39 years. The papers contain correspondence with Parsons administrators, design sketches and student work, publications, and course materials.

Frank Alvah Parsons correspondence and tribute by James Wilfrid Kerr

Summary

The collection contains correspondence from Frank Alvah Parsons, president of the New York School of Fine and Applied Art (later, Parsons School of Design), to alumni James Wilfrid Kerr and Rose Netzorg Kerr, in addition to a short manuscript written by James Wilfrid Kerr upon Parsons' death. The tribute relates Kerr's experiences as a World War One veteran studying art under Parsons' tutelage.
