The New School was a frequent host of National Book Critics Circle events, co-sponsored by the university's MFA in Creative Writing Program. This collection of audio recordings documents readings, awards ceremonies and singular events from the first decade of The New School's collaboration with National Book Critics Circle.

Nellie Lane Woodruff scrapbook of Lilli Lehmann opera ephemera

Abstract

The scrapbook, compiled by Nellie Lane Woodruff (1867-circa 1944), contains ephemera about opera singer Lilli Lehmann (1848-1929). It appears from the contents of the scrapbook that Lehmann and Woodruff were acquaintances, if not friends. The scrapbook contains photographs, clippings, programs, and other ephemera documenting Lehmann's professional singing career at the Metropolitan Opera of New York, the Bayreuth Festival, and at other venues.

Due to the techniques and tools of web harvesting, and the evolving nature of the Internet, some websites have been crawled more comprehensively than others and are represented more faithfully than others.

These records were created by the dean's office of the adult education division of The New School (as of 2022, Schools of Public Engagement), and predominantly reflect the activities of two deans, William Birenbaum and Allen Austill, 1961-1979. A subset of records document the formation of New School College in the 1960s, the Institute for Retired Professionals, and the Physicians Assistant program. A number of files are restricted due to confidentiality.
