Francesca Sammaritano student work and teaching examples

Francesca Sammaritano is a fashion designer and alumna of Parsons School of Design, as well as a full-time faculty member. The collection is comprised of two student project notebooks maintained by Sammaritano while she was a Fashion BFA student at Parsons School of Design in the late 1980s and two examples of student work created in classes Sammaritano taught as a professor.

Frieda Wunderlich papers

Summary

Frieda Wunderlich (1884-1965) was a member of the University-in-Exile (also known as the Graduate Faculty, and later as the New School for Social Research). A professor, public official and editor of an anti-Nazi magazine in her native Germany, Wunderlich came to the New School in 1933 and continued her social and economic research while teaching into the 1950s. The collection consists of files and topically-themed notebooks.

Joseph Marcella student work

The collection consists of student work and records created or received by Joseph Marcella while studying in the Design Correlations Department (now Product Design) of Parsons School of Design from 1968 to 1970. In addition to project files for portable structures, underwater and outer space habitations, and a one-piece plastic chair, the collection includes materials documenting the first Earth Day observances at Parsons.

Lyman Martin interior decoration work and papers

Summary

Lyman Martin (1908-2003) graduated from Parsons School of Design in 1939 and joined Thedlow, an interior decoration firm. At Thedlow, Martin created interiors and watercolor renderings, and designed rugs and murals. In 1969, Martin became president of Thedlow, remaining until its closure in 1979. The collection includes student work, interior drawings, a travel diary, floorplans, photographs, clippings, and exhibition files.

Mary Gettrust collection

Summary

Mary Frances Gettrust graduated from the New York School of Art (later, Parsons School of Design) in 1939 with a diploma in Costume Design and Illustration, and served as an instructor of Costume Illustration at Parsons in the 1940s. The collection consists of a partial student notebook of costume sketches, printed samples of Gettrust's work as a fashion illustrator, correspondence from Parsons Alumni Association, and Parsons-related ephemera.
