Scope and Content of Collection

These papers document the work of Reiner Schürmann, from notes and material compiled as a student at Centre d'études du Saulchoir (le Saulchoir), his lectures at the New School and manuscripts of his published writings, as well as correspondence with publishers and colleagues.

Abstract These papers document the academic career of Reuben Abel (1911-1997), beginning with his undergraduate study at Columbia College and doctoral philosophy studies in the Graduate Faculty of the New School for Social Research, through his professorship at the university. Summary

Canadian elementary school teacher Roy F. Fleming (1878-1958) produced the notebook and drawing in this collection while attending the New York School of Art (later, Parsons School of Design) between 1902 and 1907. Fleming's notes include sketches illustrating lectures by Frank Alvah Parsons, William Merritt Chase, and Robert Henri. The collection also includes a photograph of Fleming, his diploma, and a color chart created for art instruction.

Abstract Stanley Diamond (1922-1991) was an anthropologist and poet instrumental in establishing the Anthropology Department of the New School for Social Research. He chaired the department for fourteen years, during which time he founded and edited the journal Dialectical Anthropology. Abstract

Sunbeam "Sunny" Randall (1898-1993) graduated from Parsons School of Design Interior Design Department in 1951 and worked as a professional decorator. The collection includes course materials, furniture and decorative style sketches, class notes, and a scrapbook documenting Randall's art tour of Europe as a Parsons student in 1950.
