Chris Crews New School student activism collection
This collection documenting student activism at The New School and in New York City was compiled and created by Chris G. Crews, political scientist, activist, and New School graduate student between 2008 and 2019. The collection consists of video recordings and photographs of protests, town halls, meetings, workshops, and conferences, as well as documentation of various student-led, grassroot, and activist actions at The New School, and documents associated with Crews's work on various New School committees and initiatives. Also includes several of Crews’s writings on student activism.
David C. Levy records
David Corcos Levy served as dean of Parsons School of Design from 1970 until 1989. The bulk of these records were generated between 1970 and 1984, after the merger of Parsons and the New School for Social Research, and consist of memos, correspondence, reports, and subject files related to Levy's administrative tenure. Correspondents include a range of New School and Parsons administrators, including New School president John R. Everett.
Categories and subjects represented herein include developing and implementing new degree programs; the process of merging academic institutions, including the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles; faculty relations and unionization; accreditation; program and department establishment and design; and fundraising activities. Also found here are materials created by the Parsons Board of Trustees and, after the merger, the New School Board of Overseers.
Independent study oral history project on New School history
This oral history project consists of six audio interviews conducted by New School for Public Engagement student Gerard O. Hemmerle as an independent study under the supervision of Professor Julia L. Foulkes during the Spring 2013 semester. Interviewees consist of long-serving university faculty and staff, primarily associated with what was known as the New School for Public Engagement. Recordings are all in English.
Laura Auricchio faculty and administrative files
Laura Auricchio was an art history professor at The New School, 2002-2019, who also served in several administrator roles. This born-digital collection consists of course materials and administrative records from her tenure as a faculty member and administrator, primarily in the roles of chair of humanities for the Schools of Public Engagement and dean of the School of Undergraduate Studies.
New School Administration websites
The New School Administration websites collection consists of web-based content created by the Staff Senate, Parsons Faculty Council, Provosts Office, and other administrative offices at the University. Web materials are captured on an ongoing basis using the Internet Archive's Archive-It software, Conifer, and Browsertrix.
Due to the techniques and tools of web harvesting, and the evolving nature of the Internet, some websites have been crawled more comprehensively than others and are represented more faithfully than others.
New School Annual Reports
This collection consists solely of published, bound annual reports for the New School for Social Research, now The New School, issued by the university's Board of Trustees.
New School central administration collection
This collection encompasses material related to the overall administration of The New School from 1928-2008. It includes reports, financial papers, board of trustees meeting agendas and minutes, and documents prepared for accrediting by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The bulk of the files date from the late 1940s-early 1960s and the 1990s-2000s. Of note is "The New School Study" of 1952, also known as the "Swift Report."
New School Community Forum with the President and Provost
The New School hosted an online community forum on April 2, 2020 with New School President David E. Van Zandt, and New School Provost Tim Marshall to discuss the university response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This audiovisual recording of the event includes the statements made by Van Zandt and Marshall, questions posed by representatives of the University Student Senate and students at large, and responses from Van Zandt and Marshall.
New School guides and handbooks collection
This collection contains student, faculty, and staff handbooks from The New School and various divisions and departments within the university. These guides cover student life, degree requirements, information about living in New York City, among other topics. Faculty handbooks offer teaching guidelines and regulations, while materials created for international students provide information on adapting to life in the United States.
New School Office of the Provost commencement remarks and fact books collection
This collection includes small selection of files documenting the remarks of speakers at The New School Commencement ceremonies between 2006-2016 subsequently posted on The New School website, New School Fact Books, circa 1983-2009, and fact sheets from 2010-2014.
