Abstract

Hannah Arendt was University Professor in Philosophy from 1967-1975 in The New School's Graduate Faculty (later, New School for Social Research). These records stem from her work as professor and advisor to students, and her involvement with the Tenure Committee. Student files consist of transcripts, writing samples, resumes, referral requests, grant applications and correspondence, among other documents related to graduate student admissions.

This oral history project consists of six audio interviews conducted by New School for Public Engagement student Gerard O. Hemmerle as an independent study under the supervision of Professor Julia L. Foulkes during the Spring 2013 semester. Interviewees consist of long-serving university faculty and staff, primarily associated with what was known as the New School for Public Engagement. John Everett (1918-1992) served as president of The New School from 1964-1982. This collection documents the activities of the president's office during his tenure, and includes some files from prior presidents. Also included is material from Everett's board service at other academic institutions, and manuscripts for speeches and articles he authored. Some files are restricted.
