This panel discusses various current issues relating to U.S. immigration laws and their enforcement with particular reference to the impact of 9/11 on government policies and public attitudes. What changes have taken place or have been proposed in immigration laws and procedures? Has there been a serious increase in violence or discrimination towards immigrants who are or are perceived to be Muslims or Arabs? What has been the impact on immigrants requesting asylum on grounds of persecution? How have actual or proposed changes affected other populations such as same-sex, binational couples?

Panelists: Flavio Alves, asylee, writer on concerns of gay, lesbian, and transgendered people; Erick Culler, INS, Director A/O Miami; Pamela Goldberg, Professor of Law, CUNY; and Hussein Ibish, Communications Director, American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee. Presented by the Wolfson Center for National Affairs.
