Scope and Contents

Great cities, we might argue, invite the world to be part of their own destiny. They arise at a moment of convergence when tradition and new ideas interact. They are receptive to the best talents in the world. How do cities achieve greatness? Are there any universal principles of dynamic cities? Can cities learn from one another? Can once-creative cities regain their lost importance? Our discussion focuses on a wide range of examples including Barcelona, Shanghai, New York, London, Berlin, Paris, and Baghdad. Co-sponsored by the Wolfson Center for National Affairs and Creative Cities.
