Scope and Contents of Collection
The collection consists of Luis Rey's student work, executed while attending Parsons School of Design between 1964 and 1967. The projects consist primarily of renderings, drawings, and plans. Residential, commercial, and furniture design projects are included. At the time of Rey's enrollment, Parsons offered a three-year certificate program. Third year projects represent Rey's work at the conclusion of his Interior Design education at Parsons.

Biographical Note
Luis A. Rey was born in Lima, Peru. After studying engineering, Rey came to New York City in 1962, where he met William Raiser, a designer for Raymond Loewy. Raiser, an active member of the Parsons School of Design Alumni Association and its president from 1964 to 1966, encouraged Rey to consider studying interior design at Parsons School of Design.
Rey began his studies in the Interior Design Department of Parsons in 1964. In his second year, he placed second in the undergraduate category for the national NSID Scholarship Awards. Rey graduated in 1967 and formed a partnership with classmates Barbara Green and Howard Kaplan. Although Rey and Kaplan soon left the partnership for other opportunities, Green continued the firm for many years. As a young designer, Rey also designed for SLS Environetics and Luss, Kaplan & Associates. In 1972, following a friend's introduction, he joined the staff of McMillen, Inc., where he has worked as a designer ever since. He has served as president of the firm since 2002.
