The New School Archives And Special Collections

The Lucie Porges fashion design papers include biographical materials, fashion sketches, fashion illustrations and fashion photographs, and teaching records. It is of a primarily professional nature, with little documentation of Porges's personal life. The primary activities documented are Porges's fashion design work for Pauline Trigère and her teaching activities at Parsons School of Design.

Luis Rey graduated from the Interior Design Department of Parsons School of Design in 1967. The collection consists of student projects, primarily in the form of drawings and plans, executed by Rey for his courses between 1964 and 1967.

Lyman Martin (1908-2003) graduated from Parsons School of Design in 1939 and joined Thedlow, an interior decoration firm. At Thedlow, Martin created interiors and watercolor renderings, and designed rugs and murals. In 1969, Martin became president of Thedlow, remaining until its closure in 1979. The collection includes student work, interior drawings, a travel diary, floorplans, photographs, clippings, and exhibition files.

Malcolm Carter became director of The New School's university communications in 1985. The Malcolm Carter University Communications records document the three primary areas of activity over which Carter had oversight: advertising and marketing; public relations; and publications. Materials include memoranda, letters, reports, and printed materials, encompassing the range of Carter's activities.

The Mannes Camerata, founded in 1981 by Paul Echols, was Mannes College of Music's early-music ensemble. It was comprised of students, faculty, and graduates of the combined undergraduate and graduate early music programs at the Mannes, which joined The New School in 1989. The collection contains scores, schedules and program notes, photographic materials, librettos, press releases, and correspondence.

This collection of formerly bound concert programs for the Mannes Chamber Ensemble and the Mannes Orchestra was compiled by former Mannes School of Music orchestra manager Kelly Edwards.

The New School Archives staff created the Mannes College of Music administrative records collection by integrating several collections documenting the Mannes College of Music (now, Mannes School of Music). The collection includes correspondence, event flyers, photographs, legal records, meeting minutes, illustrations, administrative records and reports.

This collection is comprised of materials relating to The Mannes College of Music (as of 2024, Mannes School of Music, part of the College of Performing Arts at The New School) commencement and other ceremonies between 1961 and 2013. The collection includes programs from commencements, recognition ceremonies, and dean’s receptions, as well as speech transcripts and correspondence.

Collection consists of concert programs for Mannes School of Music student and faculty recitals as well as promotional materials for other school performances. Also includes press releases and event calendars. Mannes was established in 1916 by David and Clara Mannes and became a division of The New School in 1989. As of 2018, Mannes is part of The New School's College of Performing Arts.
