The New School Archives And Special Collections

Four lithograph prints on Strathmore Cover by Rico Lebrun (1900-1964) for his book, Drawings for Dante's Inferno, Kanthos Press, 1963. 2000 copies of the book were printed, each containing four original lithographs. In his preface, Leonard Baskin, the book's designer, refers to Lebrun as "Goya's child."

Risë Stevens (1913-2013) was an operatic mezzo-soprano, actress, and a music administrator who served as president of the Mannes College of Music from 1975 to 1978. The collection contains performance scores of Broadway and jazz standards of the 1930s and 1940s arranged for her, likely for use in her commercially recorded albums of such standards.

This collection primarily consists of drawings created by fashion designer and theater producer Robert Carreon (1947-2020) while enrolled as a student at Parsons School of Design between 1966 and 1968, as well as drawings from his Parsons admissions portfolio and publicity photos of his work from 1967 to 1969.

Robert Galster (1923-1991) and Gilbert Ireland (1924-2015) were designers and alumni of Parsons School of Design. Galster worked as a freelance illustrator and designer. Ireland designed window displays for Bergdorf Goodman for over forty years. The collection consists primarily of Galster's work and includes examples of his designs for books, album covers, and theater posters. Ireland's work is represented in photographs of the windows he designed.

The collection also contains student work by both as well as pieces by other designers including Lloyd Evans and Parsons alumnus Roy Little.

Robert Heilbroner (1919-2005) was first associated with The New School as a research fellow in the 1950s and received his PhD in economics from the New School for Social Research in 1963, during which time he studied under Adolph Lowe. Heilbroner was named Norman Thomas Professor of Economics in 1971. The papers contain correspondence between Heilbroner and Lowe, along with material documenting tributes, and samples of Heilbroner's writings.

Audio and video recordings of events sponsored by The New School's Robert J. Milano Graduate School of Management and Urban Policy and its predecessor school, the Graduate School of Management and Urban Professions (GSMUP), 1990-2001.

This collection consists of research papers written by students of the Robert J. Milano Graduate School of Management and Urban Professions (formed in 1978, renamed the The Milano School of International Affairs, Management, and Urban Policy in 2011) from 1978 to 2005. Papers are organized by program: Health Services Administration; Human Resources Management; Tourism, Travel and Transportation Management; and Urban Affairs and Policy Analysis.

The records in this collection, dating from 1985-2013, document Parsons School of Design faculty member Robert Kirkbride's involvement in faculty bodies and reviews of academic programs at The New School, primarily between 2004 and 2013, including his role as faculty advisor on the design and construction of the New School University Center at 65 Fifth Avenue. Also represented are materials documenting Kirkbride's participation in the curriculum review of various Parsons undergraduate programs and events and exhibitions in Parsons' Product Design Department.

Robert L. Ramsey (1923-2012) was an art director, scenic designer, and alumni of The New School's Dramatic Workshop. These papers contain Ramsey's set design drawings for commercials, theater, television, and film. Ramsey also co-founded an Off-Broadway theater company called On Stage Productions that operated in the late 1940s. Records from On Stage in this collection include financial documents, publicity material, box office reports, and programs.

Ramsey's papers also include scripts and other related material for prospective film projects, notes from classes at the New School Dramatic Workshop, and photographs from television commercial shoots.

Robert Mackintosh (1925-1998) was a costume and fashion designer whose design career spanned forty years and twenty Broadway productions. He made his Broadway debut designing costumes for the 1952 musical Wish You Were Here. In the 1960s, Mackintosh branched out into womenswear design with Musette, a juniors label, which was sold at Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue. He went on to design various other womens and menswear lines in the 1970s.

The bulk of the collection consists of costume sketches, technical sheets, and swatches from theatrical productions, including The Last Minstrel Show, and Mame. Also included are clippings, fashion publicity, and promotional photographs, as well as approximately 150 women's fashion sketches, and nine menswear sketches.
