Wall Street and the Economy conference recordings
The New School hosted the long-running annual conference, “Wall Street and the Economy," from 1967 until 1990. The conference participants were both individual and institutional investors in financial markets, and consisted of panel discussions aimed at providing economic forecasts for the coming year. The collection consists of sound recordings from the earlier years of the conference.
Walter Damrosch collection of scores
Walter Damrosch (1862-1950) was a Prussian-born American conductor and composer associated with opera and with early radio broadcasts of classical music. This collection contains scores collected and/or used by Damrosch, including his own piano arrangement of a Franz Liszt composition.
Walter Stein illustrations
Painter and illustrator Walter Stein (1924-1981) taught at Parsons School of Design from 1973 until his death. The collection consists of Stein's matted original watercolor illustrations, primarily depicting animals and plants, for the book, For Love of Her: Poems by Emily Dickinson, 1974.
William Frawley fashion sketches
Contains eight watercolor sketches by Frawley, who graduated from Parsons School of Design in 1983 and returned as an instructor from 1989 to 1996. Frawley is known for his illustrations in Parsons classmate Isaac Mizrahi's The Adventures of Sandee the Supermodel.
William Merritt Chase etchings "Keying Up--the Court Jester" and "Spanish Peasant"
American artist and founder of Parsons School of Design William Merritt Chase (1848-1916) etched the two works comprising this collection, "Keying Up--the Court Jester" (1879) and "Spanish Peasant" (circa 1881).
William Odom collection of book endpapers
William Odom (1884?-1942) attended the New York School of Art (later, Parsons School of Design) around 1909. He returned to teach at Parsons for many years, eventually heading the department of Interior Design, and, in 1930, succeeding Frank Alvah Parsons as president of the school. Odom served in this capacity until his death. The collection consists of Odom's research collection of approximately 300 decorative book endpaper samples.
Wisdom of Life lecture recordings
Women's Legacy at The New School collection
This collection consists of material related to the Women's Legacy at The New School project, including student-led research projects, documentation of a performance during the New School Centennial in 2019, and a podcast interview with co-founder of the project, Gina Luria Walker.
Workers Dance League event program and photograph
Two items, a snapshot and an event program, related to a performance of the Red Dancers at the Workers Dance League's First Workers' Dance Spartakiade, held at The New School in 1933.
World Music Institute concert recordings
Between 1994 and 1997, the non-profit organization, World Music Institute, sponsored a series of concerts preceded by lectures at The New School, featuring musicians and musical styles from Central Asia, India, Iran, Latin America and elsewhere. The collection consists of audio recordings of these public programs.
