Scope and Contents

The Lesley Cadman records were created or received by Lesley Cadman during her term as vice dean of Parsons School of Design. Some records pre-date Cadman's arrival at Parsons.

Abstract Michael Kalil (1943-1991) was an interior architect, philosopher, educator and artist, known for his innovative work with new materials and for humanizing digital technologies. Abstract

The Michele Alexander collection on the International Tribunal on Crimes against Women (ITCW) consists of reports, ephemera, clippings, photographs, and correspondence documenting this event, held in Brussels, March 4-8, 1976. The ITCW consisted of personal testimony, the presentation of reports by various national committees, and workshops on problems and potential solutions, discrimination against women worldwide, and gender-based violence.

Abstract

These records were created by the dean's office of the adult education division of The New School (as of 2022, Schools of Public Engagement), and predominantly reflect the activities of two deans, William Birenbaum and Allen Austill, 1961-1979. A subset of records document the formation of New School College in the 1960s, the Institute for Retired Professionals, and the Physicians Assistant program. A number of files are restricted due to confidentiality.

Summary The New School Art Center was established in 1960 with a donation from the Albert J. List Foundation, and remained in operation until around 1977. Directed by Paul Mocsanyi, the Center reflected the New School's commitment to engage provocative subjects, using art to explore contemporary political and social issues. Summary

The New School Associates was the first fundraising body associated with the New School for Social Research. Composed of faculty, former students, school administrators and supporters of the school’s aims, the Associates sponsored numerous events and an annual membership drive. These records represent the administration of the Associates from the mid-1940s through the 1970s. Art exhibition records extend into the 1980s.

Abstract

This collection encompasses material related to the overall administration of The New School from 1928-2008. It includes reports, financial papers, board of trustees meeting agendas and minutes, and documents prepared for accrediting by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The bulk of the files date from the late 1940s-early 1960s and the 1990s-2000s. Of note is "The New School Study" of 1952, also known as the "Swift Report."

Abstract The collection consists of records originating from the office of Mary Urban, who coordinated fundraising and public relations efforts at the New School in the 1940s and early 1950s, and that of her successor, Margarete Westmann, director of Development from 1958-1962. The New School Office of the University Librarian records hold reports, administrative documents, correspondence, project files, and memos. The records pertain to the oversight of The New School's libraries, which have undergone various name changes over time. Separate record groups document individual New School libraries: the Raymond E. Fogelman Library records (NS.08.01.01) and the Adam and Sophie Gimbel Design Library records (PC.08.01.01).

Abstract

The New School Online records document the university's office devoted to developing and supporting online education. The files in this record group cover the second year of its existence as the Distance Instruction for Adult Learning (DIAL) program through 2008. The unit has also been called Distance Learning and is known as Global and Distributed Education as of 2017.
