Independent study oral history project on New School history

This oral history project consists of six audio interviews conducted by New School for Public Engagement student Gerard O. Hemmerle as an independent study under the supervision of Professor Julia L. Foulkes during the Spring 2013 semester. Interviewees consist of long-serving university faculty and staff, primarily associated with what was known as the New School for Public Engagement. Summary

Originally located in six renovated brownstones on West 21st Street in New York City, The New School for Social Research reopened in 1931 in a new building at 66 West Twelfth Street in Greenwich Village, designed by Joseph Urban (1872-1933). The collection consists of drawings of Urban's original building at 66 West Twelfth Street, drawings for the expanded campus in the 1950s, and plans of other renovations and expansions at the site.
