New School Art Collection records
This collection consists of records relating to the administration and programming of the New School Art Collection from 1987 to 2003, primarily during the tenure of Kathy Goncharov, who curated the collection from 1987 to 2000. The New School Art Collection was formally established in 1960 through a donation from Albert and Vera List.
New School central administration collection
This collection encompasses material related to the overall administration of The New School from 1928-2008. It includes reports, financial papers, board of trustees meeting agendas and minutes, and documents prepared for accrediting by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The bulk of the files date from the late 1940s-early 1960s and the 1990s-2000s. Of note is "The New School Study" of 1952, also known as the "Swift Report."
New School Community Forum with the President and Provost
The New School hosted an online community forum on April 2, 2020 with New School President David E. Van Zandt, and New School Provost Tim Marshall to discuss the university response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This audiovisual recording of the event includes the statements made by Van Zandt and Marshall, questions posed by representatives of the University Student Senate and students at large, and responses from Van Zandt and Marshall.
New School guides and handbooks collection
This collection contains student, faculty, and staff handbooks from The New School and various divisions and departments within the university. These guides cover student life, degree requirements, information about living in New York City, among other topics. Faculty handbooks offer teaching guidelines and regulations, while materials created for international students provide information on adapting to life in the United States.
New School Office of Development and Alumni Relations records
The three series within this collection represent the activities of the office responsible for fundraising and alumni relations at The New School in the 1970s and 1980s, particularly with regard to special events. Materials include invitations and announcements for award, sponsor and trustee dinners, dedications, and alumni receptions, as well as planning memoranda, post-event reports, lists of attendee and board prospects, and year-end wrap-ups.
The records appear to have been maintained by directors Marvin Rich and Kevin McMahon and associate director Michael Janiak, and by manager of Special Events, Linda Palmieri, and associate director of Development for Parsons School of Design, Alfred Szymanski.
New School Office of the President, Board of Trustees records
The New School Office of the President, Board of Trustees records were transferred from the university president's office and cover the presidencies of Jonathan Fanton and Bob Kerrey. The records consist of trustee name files containing correspondence, minutes, and other materials pertaining to that trustee, many of which are restricted.
New School Office of the President Entertainment, Event and Travel sub-group
These papers document the New School Office of the President’s planning efforts relating to hosting events and to travel, mostly from between 1979 and 1989, including events spanning the tenures of John Everett and Jonathan Fanton and travel during only the Fanton era. Documentation includes guest lists, seating arrangements, invitations and correspondence with speakers, attendees, and vendors, transcripts of speeches delivered by the president, and notes on fundraising and development strategy.
