Albert Schiller type pictures
Typographer Albert Schiller (1898-1970) created artworks using pre-cast metal type elements. The collection is comprised of 35 type pictures and printing samples featured in a 1976 exhibition at Parsons School of Design.
Bea Feitler papers
Bea Feitler (1938-1982) graduated from Parsons School of Design in 1959 with a degree in Graphic Arts and Advertising. She went on to a noted career as a designer of books, magazines, posters and more. Feitler served as art director for Harper's Bazaar and Ms. magazines; consulting art director for Condé Nast; and designer for Rolling Stone magazine. Professional work in this collection includes layouts, dummies, and other pre-press items.
The collection also contains photographs and contact sheets by a number of the distinguished photographers with whom Feitler worked. Personal materials include mail art, correspondence, photographs, scrapbooks, ephemera, original drawings and collages.
Jeremiah B. Lighter graphic design work
Jeremiah B. Lighter (1921-2013) was a New York-based artist, printmaker, graphic designer, typographer, illustrator, and teacher. This collection contains artwork and design project materials relating to his professional and personal artistic career. Dating primarily from the mid-1950s through the 1980s, materials include woodblocks and prints, original artwork and proofs of Lighter's book and album cover design projects, and advertisements.
The collection also includes examples of Lighter's work in acrylics, pen and ink, watercolors, and pencil, as well as items of a biographical nature, such as his professional presentation portfolio and flyers and press releases for exhibitions of his work.
Karl Fink graphic design papers
This collection documents the industrial design practice of Parsons School of Design alumnus Karl Fink (1914-1986) from the 1930s through the 1980s. Publications concerning graphic design, print advertising, packaging and displays, color, and typography comprise the bulk of the files. Fink's original designs are represented in packaging for Topps chewing gum, a magazine cover for Modern Packaging, and Volkswagen letterhead.
