Summary

Jacki Apple is a designer, artist, professor, and alumna of Parsons School of Design. She studied fashion illustration and graphic design at Parsons from 1960-1963 and went on to work for many years as a fashion designer in New York City. This collection consists of ten fashion illustrations Apple made at Parsons, likely in a fashion illustration course she took her first year at Parsons with Irene S. Frangides.

Scope and Content of Collection

The collection consists of ten 18 x 24 inch fashion illustrations Apple made in 1961, while a student at Parsons School of Design. Five illustrations are mixed media (watercolor, oil pastel, and gouache) on paper. The other five are in charcoal. Apple was enrolled in Parsons’ Fashion Illustration program before transferring to the Graphic Design program in her second year. These drawings are most likely from a fashion illustration course she took her first year at Parsons with Irene S. Frangides.

Biographical Note

Jacki Apple is a designer, artist, professor, and alumna of Parsons School of Design. She graduated from the Graphic Design program at Parsons in 1963 and went on to work for many years as a fashion designer in New York City. In the 1970s, she focused more on her art practice and co-founded the experimental arts organization Franklin Furnace, where she served as the first curator. In the 1980s, she relocated to California where she continues to teach at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.
