Abstract

This collection consists of administrative records, printed promotional material, and publications produced by Parsons School of Design administrative offices, including Admissions; the Board of Governors; Career Services; Human Resources; Student Services; and the Development Office, including Alumni Relations and External Partnerships. The contents primarily comprise printed promotional materials, directories and lists, with a small amount of photographs and email correspondence.

Summary This record group consists of photographic records created, commissioned and compiled by The New School's Communications and External Affairs office. The collection consists of images of campus facilities, faculty and administrators, dominated by images of Parsons School of Design classes, the Parsons fashion critics awards, commencement ceremonies, and guests of Inside the Actors Studio. Abstract

Contains 236 posters created for academic departments and administrative offices of Parsons The New School for Design, including promotional posters for summer sessions and study abroad programs, recruiting by specific departments, and publicity for exhibitions, public programs, and internship fairs. With the exception of a 1927 poster advertising a dance, the series does not contain any material created prior to 1956.

Overview

Parsons School of Design was established in 1896 and became affiliated with The New School as the university's art and design college in 1970. New School Archives staff assembled this collection of audiovisual materials, exhibition catalogs, posters, publications, student work, and other formats from departmental transfers and personal donations by Parsons School of Design faculty, students and administrative staff beginning in 2009.

Scope and Contents In addition to identified work there are unidentified fashion illustrations. These could be by Roy Little, Robert Galster or Gilbert Ireland, all of whom have fashion illustration work in the collection, but there is no signature on these drawings and no distinguishable way of attributing them. Scope and Contents Includes hundreds of design sketches ranging from detailed pattern instructions to rough sketches attributed to the names of French designers and American retailers, including Elsa Schiaparelli, Jean Paquin, Cristobal Balenciaga, Hattie Carnegie, Bonwit Teller, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Bergdorf Goodman.
