The New School Archives And Special Collections

Abstract

The New School Design and Construction office is a unit of the university's Buildings department. These records include construction documents for Loeb Hall, the first residence hall owned and operated by The New School which opened in August 1989, and a campus master plan from 2004.

Abstract The collection consists of records originating from the office of Mary Urban, who coordinated fundraising and public relations efforts at the New School in the 1940s and early 1950s, and that of her successor, Margarete Westmann, director of Development from 1958-1962. The New School began inputting course information into the database, Banner [banner.newschool.edu] around 2007. As of 2021, all New School course data is input into Banner through an interface called Tableau. This collection contains course data that has either been downloaded from Banner or from other New School websites. All divisions and undergraduate schools are represented, but courses for each college are not comprehensive.

The collection consists of enrollment statistics for The New School, circa 1926-2005. Student headcounts for specific schools and degree programs within the university are often broken down by categories such as gender, place of residence, academic background, part or full time status, and occupation.

Materials include publicity materials, exhibition catalogs, and invitations. Consists of published journal articles, typescripts, unpublished essays, lectures, and seminar notes, as well as handwritten notes and resumes by or pertaining to New School faculty members from 1908 to the 2000s. Assembled by librarians at the Raymond Fogelman Social Sciences and Humanities Library (now the List Center Library, part of The New School Libraries and Archives), the collection is arranged alphabetically by faculty member last name.

The collection consists of eight zines created by members of the New School community (mostly students) at a zine workshop hosted by the New School Archives and Special Collections.
